Russell Sidell

July 7, 1960 — October 18, 2023

Russell Sidell Edwin Sidell Our amazing father, Russell Edwin Sidell, 63, passed away peacefully on 18 October 2023 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife, his children, and his siblings. Our dad was born on 7 July 1960 in Ogden Utah to Donald Bruce and Marjorie Joanne Sidell. Shortly after his birth, Russ and his family moved to Pocatello, Idaho where he lived with his siblings and parents, and eventually his wife and children until he moved to Aberdeen, Idaho in 2008 where he lived until his passing.

Dad worked in many different career fields including being a baker, a painter at the Union Pacific Railroad, the manager of the Lava Hot Springs swimming pool and hot pools, a maintenance man, and most recently a building and elevator inspector for the state of Idaho where he garnered the respect of tradesmen and tradeswomen throughout the region. He was often sought out by his peers and colleagues for his expertise and strict adherence to following established safety protocols. His daughter, Rebecca Sidell, is following closely in his footsteps as a residential inspector for the City of Chubbuck. Among many other things, Russ could function as a handyman, a mechanic, a plumber, a counselor, a friend, a confidant, a comedian, and just a good man.

Most of all, our Dad was a phenomenal person, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He exuded integrity, honesty, and reliability, and possessed the ability to make anyone feel comfortable having a conversation with him about nearly anything. Everyone who met him knew that they had met someone special after their encounter with him and always remembered him. His love was unconditional and pure, and his children feel incredibly fortunate to have had him as the cornerstone and leader of their family. His one-of-a-kind sense of humor, infectious laughter, and ability to orchestrate and execute elaborate pranks were a few of the things that made him so unforgettable. Dad was unyielding in his devotion to his parents, his family, and his friends who were lucky enough to know him.

Dad is survived by his wife, Amy (Dekker) Sidell whom he was married to for 45 years. His oldest daughter, Sara (Wood) Leasure, her husband Doug, and their two sons Nate (16) and Andrew (14) of Catonsville, Maryland. His oldest son, Donald Sidell, his wife Ashley, and their five children Russell (15), Lilah (13), Henry (9), Samuel (7), and Donald (7) of Valrico, Florida. His youngest son, Russell Sidell of Pocatello, Idaho. His youngest daughter, Rebecca Sidell, and her son Lukas (13) of Pocatello, Idaho. His oldest sister Donna (Sidell) Jorgenson, and her husband Neil of Brandywine, West Virginia. His older brother Mark Sidell, and his partner Tracie of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. His younger sister Dixie (Sidell) Hill, and her partner Robin, of Pocatello, Idaho. His youngest sister Maggie (Sidell) Messina, and her husband George of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Dad was preceded in death by his parents.
