Roxanne Scott Witt

June 29, 1955 — April 21, 2016

Roxanne Scott Witt, 60, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend left this earthly life Thursday, April 21, 2016. After a short, fierce battle with cancer, she was able to peacefully slip away into the arms of loved ones who preceded her in death.

Roxanne was born to Mary Joyce and Jack Freeman on June 29, 1955 in Soda Springs Idaho. Mary and Jack were later divorced, and Mary married Owen Blake Toomer. He took Roxanne and her siblings in as his own and legally adopted them. She spent her childhood in Conda, Soda Springs, Montpelier, and Pocatello, all in Idaho. She graduated from Highland High School in 1973. She then began attending Idaho State University where she met Donovan Lindsay. They were married in June of 1975 and had four children, Mary Heather, Donovan McKay, Brady Owen, and Brooke Anne. Her children were the loves of her life. She reminded them constantly how special they were to her. She enjoyed using Facebook to share her thoughts. Recently she posted, "I love my children with all my heart and soul. They give meaning and purpose to my life in ways I never thought possible. I have learned and grown, stumbled and stepped up along this path of motherhood. I am more because of being their mom. I am blessed to deeper depths and have experienced such tender, precious moments and memories. And I have felt their strength and maturity and love as they have given their support as I deal with losing my own mom. Love you mostest my beautiful, beautiful children."

Her youngest child, Brooke Anne was born with severe Autism. Loving her, teaching her, and seeking out the best opportunities for her became Roxanne's life passion. She fought long and hard to seek out the best education for her sweet daughter.

She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a grandma who knew how to have a good time. Her Facebook is filled with goofy selfies with her kids and grandkids. She knew all the silly jokes, all the fun stories, and was a pro at bringing smiles and giggles to sad faces. She had a knack for making each child and grandchild feel loved and special in their own unique way.

That unconditional, individualized love was a gift she gave to all her knew her. She has often been referred to as an angel. There is peace in knowing that she can now be that angel from heaven.

Roxanne loved music. This love started young with her mother and siblings. They enjoyed making music together. Sometimes beautiful, sometimes silly, but always music. She was well known for pulling out her karaoke machine for family gatherings to encourage everyone to sing. She spent countless years directing or singing in one choir or another. She directed the choir at her children's elementary school where many little budding singers got their start. Some of her favorite times singing were with the Idaho State University Camerata Singers, and more recently, the Boise Philharmonic Master Chorale. Not only did she make great music in these choirs, but wonderful lifelong friends. She passed her love of music on to her children and grandchildren, who find great comfort imagining her singing in a choir of angels.

Donovan and Roxanne were later divorced. A short while later, she became reacquainted with an old college friend, Michael Scott, who swept her off her feet and married her in October of 1998. They were a match made in heaven. He brought her much love, laughter, and happiness. They crammed a lifetime of memories into their marriage that was ended abruptly by his tragic death just four months later from a car accident. Their marriage was later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple (by proxy) for time and all eternity.

A couple years later, she was rescued from her sadness by Jim Witt. They met and fell in love, and although he calls her his angel, he was hers. They were married in August of 2001. They built a loving life together in Nampa, Idaho, where they have lived since 2002.

Roxanne's greatest joy and mission in life was being grandma. She loved her grandkids with her whole soul. Each one of them, hers by blood or marriage, were loved deeply and uniquely. She beamed with pride when she would speak of them. She was the grandma who loved being weird and goofy and teaching her grandchildren to enjoy life.

She also had a deep love for her siblings and nieces and nephews. Many of them refer to her as their "safe place". She radiated love and wanted everyone to know their worth.

She loves her family "the mostestestestest……."
