Roma Eskelson

July 26, 1932 — July 7, 2018

On July 26, 1932 a beautiful brown eyed, brown haired baby girl was born to Erma Lewis and Diamond Carlos. She was immediately adopted by Andrew Ferdinand and Mary Waddoups Anderson who named their precious bundle of joy Roma Anderson. Shortly after the adoption, Roma was sealed to her loving family in the Idaho Falls Temple. She had three siblings, Murray, Dora, and David whom she was raised with in Moreland, Idaho. She attended Snake River High School. It is there that she discovered her two true loves, writing poetry and acting in school plays. These extracurricular activities gave her a great amount of joy in which many individuals were able to witness throughout her life. Roma met Warren Jay Eskelson at a dance just before he left on his mission. Soon after he returned, on May 16, 1951, they were married for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. The young couple moved to Cache Valley, Utah where they began building their family. In April of 1952, in Logan, Utah, Roma gave birth to their first daughter, Deanna. Not long after, they moved to Pocatello where Randy Jay, Ricky K, Danny A, Brent, Tanna, Todd Warren, and Merlynn were born. At age 34, just six months after their eighth child was born, Romas world took a turn when her husband Jay fell out of a willow tree and broke his neck. This was a new and difficult chapter in life for their young family, but it did not break them. Being the strong independent woman that she was, Roma worked very hard to keep home life going. Throughout her life, she held many callings including Primary President, Relief Society teacher, and compassionate service coordinator. She was also involved in the scouting program for many years and held several stake callings. Roma was famous for her homemade rolls, pies, donuts, and her special tricot blankets (the grandchildren will contest to this). Roma and Jay had 8 children, 28 grandchildren, and 48 great-grandchildren, with 3 more on the way. Roma was preceded in death by both sets of parents; her loving husband, Jay; siblings, Murray and Dora; grandson, Jason Carlson; and two great-grandsons, Alec Eskelson and Matthew Wilson. She is survived by her children, Deanna (Doug) Carlson, Randy Jay Eskelson, Rick (Debbie) Eskelson, Dan (Kim) Eskelson, Brent Eskelson, Tanna (Mark) Buffat, Todd Eskelson, and Merlynn Eskelson Davis. After living a full and fulfilling life, on July 7 th 2018, while surrounded by family, Roma Eskelson left this earthly life to return to her Heavenly Father and reunite with her family in heaven. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11 am at the LDS Pocatello West Stake Building, 3444 Hawthorne Rd. Pocatello, ID 83201, with a viewing on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 6-8 pm as well as from 10-10:45 am prior to the services both at the church. Burial will follow at the Richmond Cemetery in Utah.
