Roma Armstrong

d. April 1, 1948

Roma Crump Armstrong, 96, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Karcher Estates in Nampa, Idaho. She was born November 12, 1916 in Burley, Idaho. She was the second of 3 sisters to Milo Nephi Crump and Arberella Lowe Crump. When she was 3, her father traveled with his wife and children to California to visit her mother's family. While there visiting, her mother contracted diphtheria and died. Her father retuned with his three little girls to Robin, Idaho where his parents took them in. His oldest sister Eliza, also living with their parents assisted in caring for his three daughters. Her father later married Ethel Hopkins. Two boys joined the family and the older sisters and the younger boys along with their parents were a loving family supporting each other with kindness and encouragement through happy as well as challenging times. Roma graduated from the eighth grade in Robin and continued her education and graduated from Arimo High School in 1936. While in high school she played a leading singing role in an operetta performance. She continued as time progressed to sing in a trio with two of her very close friends. In October of 1936 she married Hatton Amos Armstrong, who farmed and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. They were blessed with six children, Roger, Rita, Gordon, Carol, Karla, and Harold. Karla passed as an infant in April 1948. Roma and Hatton were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in March of 1997. Roma was a wonderful homemaker and very supportive to her husband and devoted to her children. Having very strong work ethics they set wonderful examples for their children as they nurtured and provided for their needs. She was a meticulous housekeeper, enjoyed cooking (a wonderful cook), and beautifying her home and yard. The weeds had no chance in her yard. She spent hours on her knees and would hear comments such as; "your yard looks like it has just been vacuumed!" She loved her home in Pocatello and lived there as long as it was possible for her to safely do so. She spent the last few years of her life with her beloved daughter Carol and husband Larry in Star, Idaho. She commented frequently about how well she was cared for. Roma had a very sweet disposition and was referred to by many as an angel. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by her children Roger H. (Ann) Armstrong of Pocatello, Rita J. Bachmann, Salt Lake City, A. Gordon (Carol) Armstrong, Twin Falls, Carol L. (Larry) Wintersteen, Star, Harold A. Armstrong, Clearfield, two brothers, Glenn (Jean) Crump, Tremonton, Dean (Sharon) Crump, Spokane area, one sister-in-law, Velma "Mickey" Armstrong, 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hatton, her daughter, Karla and two sisters, Dorothy Crump, and Ardella Crump Bullock. Funeral Services will be held At 12:oo P.M. on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the Johnny Creek LDS Building , 5425 Bannock Hwy.
