Rodney A Swenson loving son, brother, husband, father and friend passed from this life on Thursday, April 26, 2012, surrounded by his family and friends. Rodney was born to Philip and Edith Swenson on December 10, 1936 in Firth, Idaho.
Rodney married the love of his life, Gay Stringham on August, 25, 1957. Rod and Gay had four children, Shane, Shelley, Sheridan and Sharee, which they raised together with unconditional love and support.
He was a hardworking family man of many talents. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. He was a gifted farmer and a magnificent mechanic. Rod's generosity to anyone who needed help with their equipment or vehicle was well known.
Rodney was strong, resilient and determined. These traits were demonstrated in his work and how he faced adversity. When he underwent an experimental surgery in 1985, he amazed doctors with his full and rapid recovery. When he suffered a stroke in 2001, he again amazed doctors when after being in a coma for 15 days he opened his eyes. His mind, delightful sense of humor and determination recovered quickly, the mobility and strength in his left arm and leg where not as cooperative. He spent the last eleven years of his life diligently working toward full recovery while living at Boise Health and Rehabilitation. Here he quickly became an inspiration, joy and role model to all who knew him. He always focused on continual improvement, getting stronger and more independent. 90% of the time visitors would find him working in the gym.
In March doctors discovered Rod had cancer. He fought a valiant fight. On April 26, 2012 surrounded by his family and friends, Rodney passed from this earth, but not from the hearts and lives of all those who were privileged enough to love him and be loved by him. He will always be remembered for his generosity and willingness to help friends and family. He leaves a legacy of life lessons, unconditional love, humor and determination.
Rod is survived by his son Shane Swenson of Madras OR, daughter Shelley (Bob) Saban of Pocatello and daughter Sharee Swenson of Nampa. He is also survived by five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two sisters Elaine (Ish) Scott of Wendell, Genevieve Nelson of Bliss and three brothers Eugene (Marilyn) of Hagerman, Vernal (Jackie) of Shelley and Einar (Diane) of Blackfoot. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Sheridan, grandson Chase, nephew Blaine and brother Tim.
