Rodney Lee Gettman

February 27, 1939 — April 8, 2024

Rodney L. Gettman, 85 years old, passed away at his home in Pocatello.


Rod was born in McCook, Nebraska, to Bessie Arlene Bradley and Elmer Gettman. The family moved to Pocatello when Rod was young. After high school, Rod served in the Air Force.


Rod met and married Peggy Anderson and they had three children, Valerie, Boyd, and Cynda. They later divorced.


Rod enjoyed the outdoors. The family could always be found hunting or fishing or motorcycle riding on weekends. One of the family’s favorite places was Twin Lakes.


Rod worked as a bartender, forklift driver at Associated Foods, and as a carman on the railroad. He lived for a few years in Missouri working for the railroad.


He was a long-time member of the Pocatello Elks Lodge #674. He enjoyed shooting darts for the Elks.


Rod is survived by his children, Valerie Payne of Blackfoot, ID, Boyd Gettman of Pocatello, ID, and Cynda Gettman (Bonita Phillips) of Blackfoot, ID; three nephews and one niece, three granddaughters, Heidi Jackson, Laura Gonzales, Jennifer Guy; and numerous great grandkids and two great great grandkids.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Arlene Gettman and Elmer Gettman; his brother, Russel Gettman; his sister, Nancy Ann Gomer; and one grandson, Zachary Perkins.


A memorial service will be held at the Elks Lodge at a date to be determined.
