Rodney “Jace” Asher passed away in his home surrounded by his Mother, Father, and Sister on December 6th, 2024, at the age of 17. Jace was born on June 1st, 2007, to Rod and Emily Asher, in Pocatello Idaho and was raised in McCammon Idaho. He was the youngest sibling to Shayla Asher, and a half sibling to Danielle Asher and Preston Asher.
At a young age he was known for his beautiful, blonde, curly hair and his love for horses, the outdoors, and simply loving life. Shortly before his second birthday, he was diagnosed with an incurable seizure disorder. Despite the deficits that came with this condition, he had the strongest soul and shared his unconditional love with everyone around. His beautiful smile was contagious and it comforted everyone around him.
Before the age of 5, he spent the winters with his family and grandparents in Arizona, enjoying the warm weather and riding horses daily. Horse riding was such a joy for him, he spent countless hours riding with his sister Shayla, Mother, Father, and cousin Megan.
Jace was unable to attend school, but would often go to recess to be around all the laughter and joy from all the children. The children loved it when his mom would bring Jace on his horse, Katie, or on the four wheeler.
Despite his inability to participate, he often attended the Marsh Valley High School boys home basketball games. In February 2021, he was honored as Marsh Valley’s #1 fan. In addition to a standing ovation, every player on both teams came over to Jace and gave him knuckles. The young boys on the team showed him unconditional love and acceptance.
He spent many of his last years riding the four wheeler with his mom around the small town of McCammon, watching his nieces raise havoc, and throwing the best horse riding parties.
Jace is survived by his parents, Emily and Rod Asher, his sister Shayla (Trevor), sister Danielle, brother Preston, his grandparents Karen and Jan Price, and Lois Asher, his nieces Elsie and Blaise Toomer, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and great cousins.
He was preceded in death by his Grandma Marianne Asher, Grandpa Dale Asher and his Aunt Penny Asher.
The family would like to recognize and give their gratitude to his many in-home caregivers that didn’t treat him as a patient, but as their family and gave him all their love.
He was loved by the entire community and touched countless lives. May we all strive to follow Jace’s example of love, strength, and joy. Though we mourn the loss of our sweet boy, we ask for everyone to find comfort in him running and playing unconfined in heaven.
