Robert "Rob" Eugene Oliver, 87, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020 in his home surrounded by family. He was born on April 14, 1932 in Pocatello, Idaho to Arthur L and Lucille W Oliver. He was the third of four children.
Rob attended school in Pocatello at Washington Elementary, Franklin Jr. High and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1951. He enlisted in the Air Force after graduation and took basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He then trained at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi as an air traffic controller. He served the bulk of his tour at Weather Field Air Force Base in England. While overseas he was able to travel extensively around Europe. He was honorably discharged in June of 1955 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Rob met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Oliver, that same June and married her and her son, Dennis that December. 10 months later daughter Debra was born and all four were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 27, 1956.
Rob graduated from ISU in May 1959 with a B.S. degree in Business/Pre-Law. On July 8, 1959 daughter Marilee was born. In the fall of 1959, he went to work for Kraft Foods in Pocatello. He secured a V.A. loan and built his home on Park Ave. in Pocatello where he resided with his family until his death. Two more sons were born; Scott in April 1964 and Bradley in March 1968. Rob went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in April of 1974 and was a clerk/window clerk, retiring on July 1, 1997.
Rob was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a High Priest at the time of his death. He served as a Cub Scout Master, Home Teacher, High Priest Group Leader and Bishop; among other callings.
He was always a loving father and grandfather and was a friend to all.
Rob is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur L and Lucille W Oliver; his sister, Marcille; brothers, Arthur P and William F; his loving wife, Barbara J; and daughter, Debra Sue.
He is survived by his son, Dennis (Janis) Oliver of Pocatello, ID; daughter, Marilee (Danny) Green of Pocatello, ID; son, Robert Scott (Kimberley) Oliver of Portland, OR; and son, Bradley Lamar (Shelley) Oliver of N. Ogden, UT; 29 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11 am at the LDS church, 1440 Lakeview Dr. Pocatello, ID, with a viewing for 1 hour prior.
Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
