Robert Lee Speck

Robert Lee Speck passed into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 of natural causes at his home in Power County, Idaho

He was born in Portland OR to Larry Lee Speck and Marion Louise Newham on March 6, 1966. Being a military family, he moved many times as a child, notably to Puerto Rico, where his father was killed in the line of duty while stationed at Sabana Seca NavCommSta. Rob was blessed to be given the best step-father he could've asked for at three years old when his mother married Donald M. Whitley II.

Rob graduated from Lincoln High School in Tallahassee Florida in 1985. He attended Tallahassee Community College and Bridgerland Technical College in Logan, Utah.

Rob was a Boy Scout and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the BSA, was active on the wrestling and football teams in Havre, Montana and also at Wakulla High School and Lincoln High School in Florida.

Rob served a two year, full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Canada, Toronto Mission from 1987-1989. He especially loved working with the people of Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron.

Rob had many loves, most of all, people. He loved to serve others and help out in any way that he could. He also loved animals and took in many strays, and had a special touch with sick and injured animals. Rob loved his family, particularly his ten nieces and nephews.

Rob had a great sense of humor, loved to tease and loved to bring up controversial topics then leave the room with a grin on his face. He had many hobbies and interests, including; camping, gardening, scuba diving, fishing, guitar, the beach, Disney World and conspiracy theories. He loved Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, GI Joe, Indiana Jones, John Wayne and loved to play army men, Battleship, and Risk with his nephews.

Rob is survived by: Parents Donald and Marion Whitley, Sisters Lennea (Layne) Robertson and Trista (Glenn) Randall all of Pocatello, his ten nieces and nephews that he absolutely loved, two of his six grandparents and his loving Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He leaves behind many great and true friends from all over.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Portland, OR at Willamette National Military Cemetery at the side of his father, Larry, on Tuesday January 26, 2016 at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Rob's name can be made to the Boy Scouts of America or to the General Mission Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed; there will never be another like him.
