Robert Lee Jones

March 16, 1936 — September 27, 2018

PLEASE NOTE THE LOCATION CHANGE Robert Lee Jones, 82, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from complications of throat cancer. He was born on March 16, 1936 in Boston, Mass. to Chester Nicholson Jones and Dorothy Edna Kruzer. Robert attended elementary school in the Boston area then moved to Ventura, CA for his high school years. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy in July 1968. He re-enlisted in May 1972. Seventeen years later, he retired. As he served for our country he was stationed out of San Diego, CA. on the USS Hornet, an aircraft carrier, as a mechanic/instructor for helicopters. He aided in many rescues during the Vietnam War. Some other locations he served in were Hawaii and Japan. He retired in Yuma, AZ. as a First Class Petty Officer. During all of his service, and long after retirement, his dear wife, Judy, was by his side. Their daughter, Holly Anne, was born January 23, 1959. When they retired in January 1985, they moved back to CA where he went to Southwestern Jr. College of San Diego, earning a degree in Turf Management. He had a love for gardening and landscaping. He was employed with the Chula Vista School District caring for several schools encompassing 40 acres. Because of his good natured attitude, his daughter, Holly, convinced him to take night classes to become a professional clown. He dearly loved this "hobby" and continued "clowning around" for the next 35 years, ending up as a greeter at the Pocatello Walmart. He greeted everyone with that great big smile he could pull in so many poses. Children and adults dearly loved him and couldnt wait to see what costume, hat and face he was wearing each day. He diligently raised thousands of dollars for every fund raiser Walmart sponsored. After Robert joined the LDS church, he and Judy were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in June 1999. They were dedicated members. He served in Scouts and she served in Relief Society; until she became very ill with liver failure and passed away June 9, 2003. After a few years of loneliness, he met and married Anita Marie Giles on May 5, 2005. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they piloted oversize loads all over the Western States from Mexico to Canada. Anita says "he was the best man she ever knew other than her father." Robert is survived by his wife, Anita; Anitas family which consists of 1 sister; 4 children, from previous marriages; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; his daughter, Holly (Bill) Hawkes and their six children; and 13 or 14 great-grandchildren.
