Robert "Bob" Keith Griffin, 89, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017, in Pocatello, ID. He was born August 14, 1927 in Pueblo, Colorado to parents John and Lela Griffin. He enjoyed his childhood with his sister, Phyllis. He attended school in Tucson, AZ, and was an outstanding athlete and an excellent student. As a member of the Greatest Generation, Bob, as well as most of the young men of his time, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in service of his country. The war was winding down and he was honorably discharged in August of 1945. Bob took advantage of the GI bill benefit and graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelors degree as well as a masters from the University of Southern California. During those years Bob was a father to three children; Gary, Cheryl, and Elaine. After receiving his masters degree, Bob accepted a position with the Soil Conservation Service in Bismark, ND, where he met and married Merle Winko and became a step-father to her two daughters, Sharon and Sandy. Bob and Merle were transferred to Salina, Kansas to be the Deputy State Conservationist and later promoted to the State Conservationist. Bob continued in that capacity until his untimely medical retirement in 1980. Bob received many honors during his eight years in Kansas one most notable was the Conservationist of the Year Governors Award. Bob was highly acclaimed as a leader in his profession and as a leader to all. Merle and Bob enjoyed their time in Kansas with family and friends. Bob was widowed when Merle lost her battle with cancer. In 2011, Bob moved to Pocatello, ID, where he married a longtime friend, Jerry Younkin who also was recently widowed. Jerry's husband, Dale, was a best friend of Bobs and served under Bob in the Soil Conservation Service. They shared many years reminiscing and laughing over fun times they spent as couples in Kansas. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Merle; sister, Phyllis; and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Jerry, Pocatello; son, Gary (Chris) Griffin; daughters, Cheri (Mike) Blaskovich, and Elaine Griffin; and step-daughters, Susan (Mike) Zeller, Sharon (Stan) Dardis, Lynn (David) Schneider; and step-sons, Mike (Gay) Younkin, and Clint (Kate) Younkin.
