Robert John Koontz, 68, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 15, 2009. Robert was born on January 31, 1948 in American Falls. He was raised in Pocatello and grew up attending Pocatello schools, graduating from Pocatello High School in 1966. He was known by family as Bobby Jack or Robert and by friends as Bob.
After graduating from high school Robert served in the United States serving in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968. He was a member of the Airborne Ranger Team working as a communication specialist. He was also involved in long range reconnaissance patrol. After his service in the military Robert returned to Pocatello where he has resided ever since. He began working for The Pocatello School District 25, where he was employed for over 30 years.
He married Carol Crooks and then later in life married Mary Jo Sibbett.
Robert enjoyed fishing, camping and boating. He loved to garden and to cook. He enjoyed anything that took him into the outdoors. He also had a cat, named “Cat”, that was very important to him.
Robert is survived by; his daughters, Cherie (Troy) Howell, Evanston, WY, Kathy (Todd) Howell, Blackfoot; sister, Nancy Dixon, Pocatello, ID, sister, Mechelle (Louie) Biondich, Price, UT; brother, William (Anita) Koontz, Spokane, WA; sister, Lorenda (David) Knapp, Sandy, UT; step-parents, Glenn and Carmelita Montgomery, Pocatello, ID; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Montgomery, and father Robert Vernon Koontz.
As per Robert's request cremation has taken place under the direction of Wilks Funeral Home 211 W. Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, ID. A gathering of close family and friends was held on Friday November 27, 2009.
