Robert J. Winters was born on January 16, 1958 in Idaho Falls to George and Bonnie Winters. He passed away on August 18, 2017 at his home in Fort Hall from medical complications. Most people knew him as Bob.
Bob attended schools in Shelley and Idaho Falls. He graduated from Skyline High School where he was the vice president of VICA for the auto mechanics club. He was very proud that he started working at a young age. His first jobs were delivering papers and working at local grocery stores as early as 12 years old. He managed a Sinclair gas station before starting his career with the railroad. He started working for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1978 and retired as a conductor in 2015. He loved working on trains.
Bob married April Wood in 1979. They were later divorced. They had three children together: Ashley Jo, Aubree, and Robert Jared. Bob enjoyed the outdoors. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and recently started four wheeling with his new Razor. He was great at fixing things and loved to tinker with broken things until he could make them work as good as new. He had a very close relationship with his daughter, Aubree. He loved to help his kids anyway he could from fixing things, mowing their lawns, or just going to visit them. He was affectionately known as Grandpa Bob to his grandkids, Felicity and Tucker. He adored them and loved spending time with them. Bob was a big kid at heart and always loved playing with his children and now his grandkids. He had a big heart and loved to help out not only his family, but his friends and neighbors too. Bob had many friends on the railroad, and he was always making new friends wherever he went. Animals were a big part of his life and he loved horses, dogs, cats, and even rabbits. Bob is a beloved son, brother, father, grandpa, and friend.
He is survived by his children, Ashley Jo Winters-Glenn of Ammon and Aubree Winters of Blackfoot; grandchildren Felicity and Tucker of Ammon; mother Bonnie (Ted) Smith of Idaho Falls; stepmother Peggy Winters of Idaho Falls; brother Randy (Tim) Winters of Idaho Falls; sisters Karen (Mahlon) Heileson and Melanie (Larry) Anderson both of Idaho Falls; step sisters Cheryl (Brett) O'Connell of Idaho Falls, Shauna Thacker of Boise Idaho, and Melody Buna of San Leandro, CA; and step brother Carl Smith of Palm Springs, CA. He was preceded in death by his father, George Winters, and his son, Robert Jared Winters in 2015.
A life celebration in his honor will be held on September 16th at 1:00 PM at Freeman Park in Idaho Falls. Bob would love to have all those who knew him attend to celebrate his life and legacy.
