Robert Harold Burt passed away due to natural causes on August 22, 2023, being just 96 years old.
On the 7th of August 1927, a baby boy was born to Harold Osborn Burt and Violet Crystal McMahan Burt in Fruitvale, ID. They called him Bob. When Bob was 4 months old, his parents moved to a place called Earl McMahan’s Ranch in Fruitvale, ID. He started hunting with his father at the age of 7. He killed his first deer at 14 and became our hero for being the best hunter and fisherman in the entire world. He loved the outdoors.
At 17 Bob and his cousin Phil worked on the railroad in Oregon. They came to Pocatello and got a job at the freight depot. This time is when he met his gal, Nancy Jean Dixon. At the age of 18, Bob was drafted into the Army Air Corps during WWII. The war ended, and he came home at the age of 19. He married his sweetheart, Nancy Jean Dixon, on March 11, 1947, in the Idaho Falls Temple for time and all eternity. He and Nancy had been married for 76 years in March of this year. During that time, they raised 7 children. Van Carl, LaWanna Faye, Teresa Kaye, Sharee Jean, Dean Thayne, Keenan Ray, and the precious baby girl, Yvette.
Bob had 2 brothers; David and Jim Burt, and 4 sisters; Naomi, Velma, Irma, and Mary Anna.
Our Dad was a member in good standing of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many callings, and faithfully served each one to the best of his ability. He was a member of the 70’s Presidency, and a Stake missionary for 5 years. He was also a Branch President in Northport, Washington. Mom and Dad also served an honorable mission to Franklin, North Carolina.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Violet Burt, His wife, Nancy Jean Dixon Burt, a daughter, Sharee Jean Jones, Sisters - Naomi Arnold, Velma Reed, and Irma Wellard, and Sister-in-law, Letty Mae Burt, brothers-in-law Larry Reed, & Dick Arnold. And grandchildren, Tawny Kaye Hoadley, Jacqie Lee Hoadley, Jeramy Carl Burt, Tilene Persis Lott, and Oliver Troy Lott.
He is survived by 3 sons, and 3 daughters and their spouses, who still love and admire him as their hero. Van Carl Burt of Boise, Idaho, Joel & Lawanna Edwards of Pocatello, ID, Ron & Teresa Davis of Chubbuck, Idaho, Dean & Nancy Jo Burt of Ritzville, WA, Keenan & Vickie Burt of Pocatello, ID, and Wayne & Yvette Lott of Pocatello, ID. He’s also survived by 2 brothers: David and Jim Burt, and one sister, Mary Anna Barton, 28 grandchildren, 89 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. Also, many nieces and nephews that he also enjoyed very much.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on September 2, 2023, at the Pocatello West Stake Center at 3444 Hawthorne Rd, Pocatello, ID. A viewing will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on September 1, 2023, at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 West Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, ID. And another viewing just before the funeral service on the 2nd at the stake center from 10:00 to 10:45.
