Robert Gary Wyss

June 19, 1930 — November 1, 2011

Robert Gary Wyss, passed away from this life on November 1, 2011 at the Pocatello Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Gary lived his long and very independent life almost entirely in Grace, Idaho. He was born on June 10, 1930 and was the fourth child and long awaited son of Adolph and Anna Wyss; where he joined three older sisters, Freda, Jo, and Betty to complete the family.

Gary grew up and attended Grace Elementary and graduated from Grace High School in 1948. He enlisted in the Army National Guard and was later honorably discharged. He had various jobs over the years, including running Wyss Dairy with his mother. After working in Soda Springs as a millwright for many years, he attended Idaho State University and graduated with an associate degree in Culinary Arts.

Two of his greatest loves were gardening and cooking, both of which he shared generously with friends and neighbors. He never married or had children of his own, but he was a fun and loving uncle to his nieces, nephews, grands and greats. His dogs were his children and there were many different ones throughout the years. It was extremely difficult for him to give up his last little dog when his helath failed and he moved into the Caribou Living Center.

Gary is survived by one sister, Jo Merwin, Spokane, Washington; nephews, Doug (Suzi) Gallant, Anchorage, Alaska; Ed (Elnora) Lang, Roberts, Idaho; and Martin Merwin, Missoula, Montana; nieces, Linda Merwin, Spokane, Washington; Leslie (Bill) Gallant, Anchorage, Alaska; Lianne (Tom) Buxton, Roberts, Idaho; and Martha Cesar, Tacoma, Washington.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Anna Wyss, and his two older sisters, Betty Lang and Freda Gallant.

Many heartfelt thanks go to the nursing staff and physical therapists at Caribou Hospital and Living Center for their kindness and care while he stayed there; also the nurses and staff at Pocatello Care and Rehabilitation Center and Access Hospice during his final days. We cannot express our gratitude enough to the friends and neighbors who looked after his house and visited him regularly at Soda Springs and Pocatello. Many blessings to all of you!
