Robert "Bob" Lamar Jackson

December 24, 1926 — September 28, 2016

Robert "Bob" Lamar Jackson, 89, of Pocatello, passed away Wednesday morning, September 28, 2016, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

(As written by Bob and published at his request with minor editing):

I was born December 24, 1926, to George Henry and Leda Ellis Jackson in Tyhee, Idaho. I graduated from Pocatello High School and went directly into the U.S. Navy in 1944. After naval training in San Diego, California, I was assigned directly to the U.S.S. President Adams Troop Transport Ship in the Pacific Ocean. Later in the fall, this ship returned to the U.S. for repair. I was then transferred to the U.S.S. Battleship South Dakota. We went through the Panama Canal locks and into the Atlantic Ocean. I was honorably discharged in 1946.

I married B. Ruth Cannon in San Francisco, California, on April 5, 1945. Together, we had a daughter, Kaylene Ruth Jackson, and a son, Kerry Robert Jackson. We lived in the Pocatello area. My wife, Ruth, passed away in September of 1979.

On June 18, 1982, I married Sharon Poole. We lived in Pocatello for 10 years and then moved to St. George, Utah, for 13 years before returning to Idaho and living in Chubbuck.

I worked for Allis-Chalmers Mfg. Co. as a manager for the Pocatello Branch for 25 years and then later worked for Bennett's Idaho Glass and Paint.

Bob was a member of the LDS church. In his earlier years he held various callings. Although he was not as active in the last several years, he still was a very spiritual person.

I am survived by: my wife, Sharon Jackson; daughter, Kaylene (John) Sheets; sister-in-law, Berniece Jackson; brother-in-law, Gary Faris; stepchildren, Dennis (Ruthann) Poole, Annette Zollinger, Scot (Candy) Poole, Brian (Andrea) Poole & Nicole (Patrick) O'Brien; grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren.

I was preceded in death by: my parents, George and Leda Jackson; my first wife, Ruth Jackson; son, Kerry Jackson; brothers, H. Fendon (Helen) Jackson, Verlon Jackson, Velbert (Martha Lou) Jackson; and sister, Belva Jane Faris.

I am honored to have been associated with Sharon's sons and daughters and their families. Also, her sisters, their husbands and families and Sharon's mother and stepfather.

The family would like to thank the hospice staff who assisted Bob in his final days with providing comfort to him and the family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Wilks Funeral Home 211 W. Chubbuck Road. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will follow services on Saturday in the Mountain View Cemetery with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
