Richard William Spencer passed away on February 24, 2022 in Pocatello, Idaho. Richard was born on December 13, 1952, in Riverview Hospital in Red Bank, NJ. He grew up in Holmdel, NJ and was an active member of HYAA. While attending college in New Hampshire, he spent the summers as a lifeguard at Anchorage Beach Club in Sea Bright.
He then hit the road with his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Martin, and moved to California. After some time in California, he moved to Las Vegas where he owned his own gas station before becoming a food broker with Nevada Food Brokerage. While employed with Nevada Food Brokerage he founded what he would call “a small ice cream company” called Mombo’s.
While on a yearly hunting trip to Idaho, he and his wife, Deborah Spencer, found a darling piece of land with a big white barn on it. It was love at first sight, and he decided to buy it and build his own piece of paradise. Richard was finally able to leave the desert heat of Las Vegas and pursue his ultimate dream of building his own house and becoming a volunteer EMT. He didn’t stop there though; he volunteered for numerous community events and began writing grant proposals for Inkom, ID to purchase special equipment that was needed for the fire department to safely do their job. Richard would become beloved in the community; he would be named Grand Master of the 4th of July parade in 2017, choosing to ride on a fire truck instead of a convertible.
Richard had a passion for antiques and collected many rare items. He loved working outdoors, cooking delicious meals, hunting, and fishing. His door was always unlocked, and he was ready to be an ear for anyone in need. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Spencer; his brother, Gary Spencer; mother, Dorothy Spencer; and two daughters, Olivia Spencer and Ashley Spencer. He made an impact on everyone that he met and will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 3 pm at the Inkom Community Bible Church (251 Grant Ave. Inkom, ID 83245). There will be a potluck dinner with the main course provided. Please bring a salad, side dish, or item Richard would have enjoyed. Richard loved to cook and collect recipes – in lieu of flowers, please consider bringing a copy of a family favorite for us to enjoy together in his memory.
Memories and condolences may be shared with the family under the "Tribute Wall" tab above.
