Richard "Rick" Bystrom

Richard (Rick) Johan Bystrom passed away on June 30, 2023. Rick was born on November 19, 1943, to Alvar and Ingeborg Bystrom. He was raised in the Watts neighborhood in Los Angeles, CA.

In 1975, he relocated to Pocatello, Idaho with the Union Pacific Railroad. There he met his wife, Patricia.

Rick spent his life working to be the best version of himself possible. He was a brakeman/conductor for the UPRR, remodeled houses, coached many of his sons’ sports teams, played semi-professional poker, traveled the world with a backpack, and played golf obsessively.

Rick loved his family, golf, exercise, traveling and healthy living. He was a wonderful, complicated, generous, adventurous force to behold. He will be missed.

Rick is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Shawn and Erik (Ketlen); daughter, Monika; his grandchildren, Myla and Asher, Lauren and Julie and Melanie; brothers, Glen and Brian; and sister, Elsa.

Sadly, he was preceded in death by his son, Patrick Johan (Dominique).
