Richard Neil Steffens

Richard Neil Steffens o ur awesome father, grandfather, and loving husband passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 7, 2018. Richard was born February 9, 1946 in Blackfoot, ID. He was the youngest of 5 children and the only child in his family born in a hospital. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1966. He married Ila Ames, the love of his life, on February 4, 1967. Richard served in the United States Air Force. Richard worked hard to provide for his family. He worked at Lamb Weston potato processing plant. When Richard started at FMC, his coworkers gave him the nickname "Flaky". Richard worked as a Machinist at FMC for many years. He also worked as the Business Agent for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union. He ended his career as a Radioactive Waste Inspector at INEEL. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with family. Richard enjoyed people and was the ultimate practical joker. He had a disposition that made others smile and he was very quick witted. Richard had a recognizable, infectious laugh and was a joy to be around. Richard is survived by his brother, Bob; his wife, Ila; their three children, Stephanie Steffens Berntson, Cedar Hills, UT, Kris Steffens Kollars, Chubbuck, ID, and Rick Steffens, Pocatello, ID; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Richard has been cremated at his request. A private family gathering is planned. There will not be any formal services.
