Richard Matthew Sivula, 89, loving husband, father and grandfather, returned to his Heavenly Father and his sweet companion on June 26, 2017 of natural causes at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello, Idaho. Richard was born April 19, 1928 in Nathan Michigan to Matt and Julia Sivula. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948. He served in the Combat Infantry Division in Korea. He left the Army in 1957 and reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1958. He received 6 major Combat Battle Stars. He retired from the Air Force in 1969. On June 7, 1952 he married Irene Rose Thaler in Lorretto, Michigan. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Richard loved his country and loved to hunt, fish and camp. He was dedicated to his wife and family. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully throughout his life. He is survived by his three children, Carl (Marjorie), Springfield, Idaho, John (Cindy) Land O Lakes, Florida, Anita (Brian) Hymas, Chubbuck, Idaho; brother, John (Yvonne) Sivula, Faithorn, Michigan; sister, Lorraine Rasmussen, Norway, Michigan; 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother-in-law, Kermit Rasmussen; and a great-granddaughter, Emily. He will be greatly missed. We want to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello; who lovingly took care of him for the last 5 months of his life. A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. Funeral services will be on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 11 am at the LDS Century Ward Chapel, 2271 S. 4th Ave., Pocatello, ID 83201 (4 th and Fredregill Rd.), with a visitation for one hour prior to the service. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83204.
