Rex Elza Hughes

Rex Elza Hughes was born September 6, 1945, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and passed away on August 22, 2023, in Pocatello, Idaho.

Rex served his country honorably in the United States Navy, and was stationed in Adak, Alaska for a period of time.


On December 9, 1966, he married Virgie Ann Kimball in Salina, Utah. After they got married, they spent time living in Utah, Montana, and Idaho, ultimately settling in Pocatello, Idaho in 1974.


Rex worked at Westinghouse, W.I.S.E. – Western Industrial Service and Engineering, and retired from Dyke’s Electric in 2012 as a machinist.


He was a member of the NRA, and enjoyed camping, four wheeling, fishing, huckleberry picking, western movies, archery hunting, and riding motorcycles. Rex only owned Mopar (Chrysler and Dodge) vehicles, enjoyed drives in the mountains, and loved his Labrador retrievers (Ivory, Taffy, Goldie, Mercy, Sneekee, and Liberty). Guns and reloading bullets were his passion, he loved sweets, shooting guns, and enjoyed spending time with his family.


Rex was preceded in death by his parents Irene Leonard Seifkas and Elza Dewey Hughes, and brothers Harry Crain and Terry Crain.


He is survived by his wife Virgie Ann Hughes of Pocatello, children: Travis Rex (Cassie) Hughes of Pocatello, Annie Irene Hughes (Tom Williams) of Pocatello, and Tracy Dewey Hughes of Twin Falls; grandchildren: Audrey Anne Loveday, Alexis Brook Hughes, Tyler Dewey Hughes, Marissa Marie (Josh) Powell, and Lydia A. Hughes; great grandchildren Canyon Rexlan Charles Hughes, Jocelyn Alice Packer, Sophia River Powell, and Poppy Ann Powell; and brothers Kenny Vistercil, Kevin Sweeney, and David Large.


A viewing will take place on Thursday evening, September 7, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, also at Wilks Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Idaho State Veteran’s Cemetery in Blackfoot, followed by a family gathering at the ampitheater shelter overlooking the water at Jensen’s Grove in Blackfoot from 3:00-6:00 p.m., and food and drinks will be provided.
