Reed Darrel Zundel

May 19, 1931 — April 14, 2019

Reed Darrel Zundel, 87, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 in Boise, ID. Reed was born on May 19, 1931 in Pocatello, Idaho to Dwight Hall Zundel and Vilet Elizabeth Lewis Zundel. He attended school in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1949. From High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. When the Korean War started he was sent to Korea. After returning home from Korea his sister, Elaine introduced him to Joann, one of her co-workers at the Telephone Co. He asked her out on a date and on September 25, 1953 Joann Kay Lloyd and Reed D. Zundel were married in the Logan, Utah Temple. Reed started working for the Union Pacific Rail Road as a welder in the Car Shop. A few years later Chyleen Kay was born, 13 months later Debbie Lyn and then several years after that Kenneth Reed came along. The family was not complete until Heidi Jo and Douglas Dee were added and adopted. Reed retired from the UPRR in 1988 and they became snowbirds, heading to Quartzsite, AZ for the winters. In 1989 Reed and Joann went on a mission to the Page, Arizona area, working with the Navajo Indian Nation. They enjoyed it and a few years later went on a second mission to the same area. Reed served in the LDS Church in several capacities and was very proud that he was ordained a 70 by former Prophet, President Thomas S. Monson. Reed enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He loved to travel and planned a fun vacation every year for the family, with lots of camping trips sprinkled in. Reed and Joann sold their house in Pocatello and lived in their 5th wheel trailer for several years, then bought a home in Blackfoot. They then sold that home and moved back to Pocatello for a few years, then made a move to Nampa, Idaho, then to the Boise area. Reed fell and hit his head, then on Saturday passed away at St. Alphonsus in Boise. Reed was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dwight, Earl, Glen, Irwin, Nephi and William; granddaughter, Chelsea Blair; and grandson, Deven Zundel; and son-in-law, Frank Harrison. He is survived by his wife Joann; their children and spouses, Chyleen Tucker (Richard), Debbie Lareau (Richard), Heidi Harrison, Ken Zundel (Cindy) and Douglas Zundel (Sherry). He left 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and many, many friends. The family of Reed Zundel would like to thank St Alphonsus Hospital for the excellent care they gave our father and the kindness they showed us during this very sad time.
