Rayo Ellis Scott, 91, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015 at his home from natural causes. Rayo was born on October 11, 1923 in Wapello, ID to David Moroni Scott and Marinda Vilate Hargraves Scott. He lived in Wapello until he was four years old and then his family moved to Pebble near Bancroft. Several years later they moved to Firth. In 1938 the family moved to Pingree, ID where they farmed and raised cattle. Rayo attended school in Pebble and Firth graduating from Thomas High School in 1941. In 1944 he joined the US Army. He served in the Pacific on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. He served in the occupation of Japan being one of the first M.P.s entering Japan after the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946. In December 1948 he met Doris Mae Palmer at the Deleta Dance Hall and they were married on August 25, 1949. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 28, 1952. They celebrated 66 years of a fun filled marriage three weeks ago. Rayo farmed in Pingree until 1955 and worked in the spud plants during the winter. In 1955 they moved to Missoula, Montana and worked for Montana Power & Light. In 1957 they moved to Pocatello where he worked for the Railroad. He then became a carpenter millwright working on many structures around the North West until he retired. He helped build the Pocatello LDS Stake Center and many more. He was a true handy man building and repairing many homes around Pocatello. Rayo was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having held many positions with home teacher being his favorite. He loved to hunt and fish, go on road trips and spending time with his family. Rayo was a wonderful husband and father to his 6 children. Rayo is survived by his wife, Doris Mae Scott, Pocatello, ID; children, Rayo Edward (Judy) Scott, Pocatello, ID, Howard Jeffery (Tamara) Scott, Pocatello, ID, Clifford Dean (Amanda) Scott, Rupert, ID, John Marshall (Yana) Scott, Cedar Hills, UT, Lucinda Louise (Darrell) Lewis, Blackfoot, ID, Margaret Kathleen (Doug) Hutchison, Roseville, CA; 27 grandchildren, and 62 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, David & Vilate Scott; siblings, Harris Scott, Durwerd Scott, Lamond Scott, Sarah Scott, Carmel Scott; and 3 grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11 AM at the LDS Church, 655 S. Grant Ave. Pocatello, Idaho 83204 with a viewing one hour prior. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 6-8 PM at Colonial Funeral Home 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho 83201.
