Ray Hofer, 90, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Emeritus Ridge Wind Care Center in Pocatello. Ray was born on July 29, 1924, in Blackfoot, Idaho and spent his youth on the family farm in Blackfoot. He is the youngest of six children born to August and Sarah Louise Barnard Hofer. He married Josephine OMaley in 1944. In 1955, he moved his family to Pocatello to take a job with Jewel Home Shopping, working in the Pocatello and Blackfoot areas for 35 years. Family vacations included traveling to square dance jamborees throughout the West. After retiring from Jewel, he was employed by the U.S. Forest Service, working with computers. While at the Forest Service, he became proficient in computers, which turned into a hobby researching genealogy, and printing programs and bulletins. Another favorite activity was singing with the Silver Chords at the Senior Citizens Center and at various functions around town. Ray and Josephine raised 11 children, have 44 grandchildren, and 50 great-grandchildren, most of whom they kept in touch via the internet. Ray is survived by four sons, and seven daughters. Larry (Jenny) Hofer, Rita (Alan) Caldwell, Linda (Mike) England, Charlene (Jeff) Benson, Leslie (Mike) Boos, Denise (Bert) Phillips, Hal (Jennifer) Hofer, Lynette (Kelly) Crompton, Tracy Green, Don (Elaine) Hofer, and Marc Hofer. He is preceded in death by his wife, Josephine, his parents, August and Sarah Hofer, 1 sister, and 4 brothers; son-in-law, Robert W. Green; grandson, Kyle Benson; and granddaughter, Joelle Boos. A graveside service will be on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
