Randy Vern Bennett

May 4, 1961 — August 17, 2009

Randy Vern Bennett, 48, unexpectedly returned to his Father in Heaven on August 17, 2009.

Randy entered life on May 4, 1961, in Pocatello, Idaho. His parents, Vern Ladeal Bennett and Rhoda Butterfield Bennett, were thrilled to have an inquisitive baby boy join their two daughters. Randy attended elementary school and junior high in Pocatello. He really wanted to follow his sisters to Highland High School; however the boundaries were changed just before he started his Sophomore year. After trying to convince the school district to allow him to attend Highland, he decided that he would have to follow the rules and attend Pocatello High School, from which he graduated in 1979.

After graduation, Randy enrolled in Votech, where he excelled in the Electronics Program. Upon completion, he went to work in Rock Springs, Wyoming for the local power company. He made lots of friends while in Rock Springs, and was able to do some missionary work with some of his friends. He became very active in the LDS singles ward. He than received a job with Utah Power, which took him to live in Idaho Falls, Idaho. After a year or so, an opportunity arose for a job with Idaho Power, taking him back to Pocatello. He remained with Idaho Power for almost 22 years, until the time of his death. He started as a communication's technician, moved to Payette, Idaho for a couple of years as a communication's supervisor, then back to Pocatello as a relay technician.

He met Lisa Banks in 1989, at the University singles ward. They soon became good friends and Lisa invited Randy to a dance. Randy soon asked Lisa out on their second date, and they were engaged on Valentine's Day 1990. On June 22, 1990, Randy and Lisa were married for Eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Family was important to both and on July 26, 1991 Rachael joined the family, followed by Saren on Oct 22, 1993. Randy loved spending time with his daughters, even creating an “Auntie Olga” Russian character, to tuck them into bed each night. They also would spend time singing the “Inch Worm song.”

Randy served faithfully in several callings in the LDS church, ending with 1st assistant in the High Priest Group. Randy enjoyed reading science fiction and fantasy, the scriptures, spending time with family, and photographing nature and his children. He was always available to support his children's endeavors, and will be missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing him. He was always willing to help others, especially his parents the past several months.

Randy is survived by his wife and two daughters of Chubbuck; his parents of Pocatello; His two sisters, Linda Larsen (Murry), Pocatello; and Kathy Killian (Larry), Rigby; His inlaws Noyle and Faye Ann Banks, Milford, Utah; Brother in laws, Alan Banks, Wells, NV; Robert Banks (Michelle) Cedar City, Utah, and sister in law, Bridgett Banks, Lubbuck, TX; along with many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, and many good friends; along with his “boy” Ebony the dog.

The family would like to thank the emergency room staff, Dr. Fowler, the ambulance crew, and the Pocatello EMTs, who did all they could to help Randy Monday night.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations towards college funds for Randy's two teenage daughters. Donations can be made to the Randy Bennett Memorial Fund at US Bank.
