Randall (Randy) Ray Reed was born April 9, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa to Deloris and Raymond Reed. Randy was the second born of six children: Sharlyn, Marlon, Monty, Renea and Bryan.
Randy attended and graduated from Leeds High School in 1967. Following his graduation, Randy enlisted in the Air Force and became an airplane mechanic. Randy served our nation in the Vietnam War, in the 185th Tactical Fighter Group, Phu Cat Air Force base from 1968 to 1969.
Deloris and Raymond raised their family on a ranch in Iowa where Randy participated in 4H, showed livestock and trained horses. During his time in Iowa, Randy met the love of his life, Sherry Roberta Reed. They were married June 30, 1973. During the early years of their marriage they welcomed Christopher Michael Reed, Travis Jon Reed and Shawn Lee Reed. Randy and Sherry moved to Pocatello and he made a career in Kraft Foods, which would later become Heinz Foods, until retirement. Most employees adored Randy and thought that he was an excellent supervisor. Most of his early time in Pocatello was spent taking care of his family and working. Randy enjoyed taking his wife and sons on trips. They went camping, fishing and on road trips. He loved spending time showing his sons the beauty and fun of the outdoors. Randy worked hard with Sherry so that they were able to take their family on vacations. After retirement, Randy found more time to spend enjoying himself by hiking, camping, being active and taking in the natural beauty of our area. In 2015 Randy found out he was going to be a Grandfather to Patience Reed, and he swore that he wouldn’t want a thing to do with her until she was 5 years old, and boy was he wrong! Patience took to her Papa, as she lovingly called him, and wrapped him around her finger as soon as she was born. If you found Papa, chances were, you found Patience. He gained a best friend in the little girl. Randy took Patience everywhere with him; coffee with the guys, buggy rides, walks, camping, etc. It didn’t matter, if she wanted to go, he was happy to take her! Randy loved to be active with family and friends. He frequented the gym, spent time riding his bike and playing with the grandkids.
Randy enjoyed going to church and partaking in the Bible studies that they had. He was strong in his faith. Randy was a jokester. He seemed so serious most of the time, but the more you got to know him, the more of a tease he was. He loved to joke, tease, make people laugh; under that rough exterior was a happy-go-lucky type of man. He loved his family and friends dearly. Randy could be stern and correct what needed to be corrected but was the type of person that you could still be friends with afterwards. Most people that encountered him clicked with him quickly and he was well known and liked.
Randy is survived by his three sons Chris (Christy), Travis (Nic and Billie), and Shawn; his granddaughter Patience, his adopted granddaughters Skylar and Challis and his granddog Molly Ann; his siblings Sharlyn, Marlon, Monty, Renea and Bryan, as well as his father Raymond. Randy is preceded in death by the love of his life of 48 years Sherry Reed and his mother Deloris.
In lieu of flowers, take the time to volunteer and assist others. Randy enjoyed helping out his neighbors, friends, family, kids, ANYONE. He participated in Habitat for Humanity, as well as other services. He was not the type to wait to be asked if he would help, he just jumped in. With the holidays coming, help with meals and gifts. Stop and push a car that has stalled in the street or change a tire. Be like Randy, and be helpful and kind to those in need.
