Ramona Fullmer

November 19, 1930 — January 6, 2017

Ramona Sarah Mecham, 86, left this earth on January 6, 2017 to reunite with her husband Mark and the family who went before her to prepare the way.

Ramona was born in Sterling, Idaho to Melvin and Rozella Mecham. She was the fifth child of eleven children, as her twin was born five minutes earlier. Growing up, Ramona lived in Sterling, Wapello, Groveland, and Tyhee, Idaho. Her father was a farmer and they moved wherever he could lease land to farm.

Ramona attended local schools until she was in high school. When she was sixteen, she married Mark Fullmer on November 8, 1947 in Blackfoot, Idaho. She wouldn't turn 17 until November 19th. They were married by a Justice of the Peace and borrowed $5.00 from his sister to go to the movies. Mark and Ramona moved to Pocatello and that is where they lived until both of their deaths. Their first apartment was a converted shed with two rooms and a bathroom. With great work ethics and untiring energy, they continually moved up in their lives, ending on a very successful note.

Ramona drove a mail van for Salmon River Stages for many years. She hauled the mail from Pocatello to the American Falls and Aberdeen post offices. She truly lived by the Postal Service creed that neither rain nor snow nor sleet ever stopped her from her appointed rounds. She drove many winter days on slick and icy roads to make her deliveries.

The School District kitchens were her employers for five years. She worked at the main kitchen, but her favorite part of this job was working at the Lincoln Elementary School in the lunch room. She enjoyed interacting with the children and making sure that every child had a lunch, regardless of his or her financial situation. She saw more sense in feeding a hungry child without funds than throwing food in the garbage. She was a favorite lunch lady for the many children she served.
For a few years, she worked with her older sister Donna at Pack's Cleaners doing dry cleaning, pressing, and helping customers. She and Donna had many happy and fun memories working together.

On May 6, 1964, Mark and Ramona were married and sealed for all eternity in the Idaho Falls temple and had their six children sealed to them. Ramona's children were the ultimate joy in her life. With two daughters and four sons, she had all kinds of adventures and dramas. She was a disciplinarian, a friend, an example, and a shining beacon for her children, and she shaped them into the people that they are today.

Ramona served in various positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a Sunday school librarian, Sunday school teacher, and Cub Scout den mother. She enjoyed working with the children in the ward. Her house was always full of her kids and their friends all were treated equally and welcomed with open arms, cookies, and homemade bread.

Ramona enjoyed sewing clothes, quilting, and baking. She enjoyed camping with her family and friends in tents, campers, and trailers. No camp-out or family barbeque was complete until Ramona brought her potato salad, chocolate sheet cake, and baked beans.

Ramona is survived by six children: Peggy (John) Ellis, Dennis (Susan), Randy (Steve Montgomery), Gary (Diane), Rocky (Vicky) and Sherry (Donnie Wheeler). She has 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind siblings Bill (Joan) Mecham, Earl (Mickey) Mecham, and Zelma Bell, and sister-in-law Marjorie Mecham.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mark Fullmer, siblings and spouses Archie, Hubert (Lorraine) Mecham, Donna (Terry) Parsons, Wanona (Howard Nestor and Ed Wheatley), Darrell and Monte Mecham, brother-in-law Arthur Bell, and great- granddaughter Olivia Russell.
