Ralph Thomas Allen, 85, passed away on September 9, 2018 peacefully at his home in Inkom, Idaho. Ralph was born and grew up in the small coal mining town of Evarts, Kentucky before leaving and joining the U.S. Air Force where he served for 23 years as a Security Combat Police Officer working the flight line at various bases including Vietnam, and was assigned to the Aerospace Defense Command later retiring as a Master Sargent. After retiring from the military, he took a job as the Security Officer at Villa Marin, a retirement community in San Rafael, California where he met some outstanding people, later retiring from there and starting to enjoy life. He enjoyed passing the time reading books of various things, camping in the redwoods of northern California before moving to Idaho where he spent the remainder of his life. During his lifetime however, Ralph shared some of his backcountry stories of the moonshiners of Kentucky, always drawing a laugh or two from friends and family about where he grew up at. Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Viola; his parents Grace York and William Smith of Kentucky; his brothers Gordon Smith and Chuck Smith of Illinois and his daughter Debra Sangimino of Valley Springs, California. Ralph is survived by his children Susan (Matthew) Bezayiff of Inkom, Pamela Allen and Stephan Allen of Grand Rapids, Minnesota along with nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many cherished friends across the country. A celebration of Ralphs life will occur at a later date.
