Ralph Lee Walker

June 24, 1918 — December 21, 2012

Ralph Lee Walker, 94, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2012, at a local care facility.

He was born on June 24, 1918, to Emmett C. and Mae Adams Walker in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho where he attended elementary and junior high school and graduated from Idaho Falls High School.

He then played trumpet in a dance-band with his brothers and future brother-in-law and attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho for a time. He joined the United States Army on April 7, 1941.

During World War II, he served honorably in campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and the Ardennes in France.

When the war ended, he studied accounting at Denver University. After graduation, he began a thirty-eight year career with the Internal Revenue Service.

In Denver, he met his future wife, Sarah Ann Fero. They were married on May 27, 1955 and made their home in Denver and later in Littleton, Colorado. Ralph retired and moved to Pocatello, to be near to family in 1980.

Ralph was a lifelong fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed being in Idaho for the opportunities it offers for those activities. He and Sarah particularly enjoyed the hot pools at Lava and loved to spend time there with family members. Ralph really loved swimming in the big pools with his grandson John, nieces, nephews, and Littleton neighbor, Scott Hanson, whom he and Sarah tended daily from infancy until first grade.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sarah, older brother, Kenneth Walker, sister-in-law, May C. Walker, brother-in law, Vernon H. Taylor, and a younger brother, Emmett Clyde, who died in infancy.

He is survived by one sister Ruth W. Taylor, Pocatello; younger brother, Marvin Walker, Idaho Falls; sister-in-law, Alberta Walker, Pocatello; grandson, John Fero, Atlanta, Ga.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friend, Scott Hanson, Federal Way, Wa.

The family wishes to express thanks to Dr. LaVonne Mills, Alliance Home Health and Hospice, and Elegant Assisted Living for their special kindness and care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Primary Children's Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
