Phyllis Hyde

February 18, 1933 — July 7, 2019

Phyllis Jensen Hyde, age 86, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at her daughter's home in Lehi, Utah. Phyllis was born in Groveland, Idaho, on February 18, 1933, to Joseph and Bertha Jensen. The youngest of nine children by six years, Phyllis grew up on her family's farm where she learned to be self-sufficient and an excellent gardener and cook. She also began a life-long love of the many cats that were dear to her throughout her life. She loved to read, and attended elementary and middle school in Groveland, then high school in Blackfoot, Idaho. After graduating from high school she worked as a telephone operator until she enrolled at Brigham Young University, where she worked as a stenographer for Geneva Steel in Provo, Utah. While at BYU, Phyllis met Charles Robbins Hyde, and they were married on September 11, 1953, in the Logan, Utah temple. After Charles graduated from BYU, he entered the United States Air Force, and they moved to Witchita, Texas, then to Kennett, Missouri. Following his completion of service, they moved to Pocatello, Idaho in 1958, where they lived until 2019. Phyllis was a kind, gentle, private soul loved by all who knew her. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life, holding many callings in the Relief Society and Primary. She loved music, and was an excellent pianist, accompanying many choirs and singers, and serving as ward organist for many years. She taught many piano students throughout the years, including her children and grandchildren. A contemplative spirit, Phyllis wrote many songs, although she was usually too shy to perform them in public. Her family was especially dear to her, with their well-being uppermost in her mind and heart at all times. A dedicated homemaker throughout her life (and a superior pie maker), she was also completely involved in the summer family camping trips and vacations, including many week-long backpacking trips. She especially loved family reunions, and seeing all the family members coming together in harmony. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband Charles, and her five children, Russell Hyde (Bonnie), Douglas Hyde, Laurel Owens (Kelly), Joseph Hyde (Becca), and Richard Hyde (JoEllen). She is also survived by a sister Laurel, brother Vernon, 21 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 11 am at the Pocatello Central Stake Building, 225 Oakwood Dr. Pocatello, ID, with a viewing for one hour prior.
