Phillip Jerome Nickell, 63, passed away on December 22, 2015 at his home in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho after a battle with cancer. Phil was born in Ashton, Idaho on February 1, 1952 to Kenneth G. Nickell and Frances Ware Nickell. He spent his early life in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, Seattle, Washington and Ashton, Idaho. He graduated from North Fremont High School in 1970, where he was active in football and wrestling. He had a life altering accident in July 1970, a few days prior to joining the United States Marines. As a result from this event his vision was greatly impaired. He then settled in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho where his grandmother, Ann Ware lived. They had a close relationship. He worked for area farmers and ranchers as a water-master. Despite being legally blind, he led a productive and self-sufficient life. He was kind and generous to all. He was a thoughtful uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He always went the extra mile for his family despite his own challenges. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth G. Nickell; step-mother, Virginia Nickell; sister, Kathleen Nickell; grandparents, Bill and Ann Ware and Clarence and Veta Ashley. He is survived by his mother, Frances Nickell, Seattle, Washington; sisters, Lee (David) Lystrup, Henderson, Nevada, Denise (Rod) Dalling, St. Anthony, Idaho, Lisa (Brent) Sturman, Pocatello, Idaho; and brother, Jed Nickell, Ashton, Idaho. Inurnment will take place at the Ashton (Pineview) Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 1-3 pm at the Community Center, 150 N. Center St. Lava Hot Springs, Idaho 83246.
