Phil Seldon

May 21, 1965 — March 17, 2021

Phillip Sean Seldon, 56, of Idaho Falls, passed away on March 17, from lung cancer.

Phil was born in Idaho Falls to Tony Drips and Phyllis McRill Drips on May 21, 1965. He graduated from Bonneville HS in 1983. In 1986 he moved to Phoenix, AZ with his girlfriend, Connie Brown. On May 14, 1993 he married Kara McNickle in Phoenix. They had one son, Jason Seldon, who was raised by Phil. He attended Arizona State University from 2002-2004 where he studied Political Science and History. While in Arizona, Phil worked as an independent contractor, and started Seldon Plumbing. He and Jason moved back to Idaho Falls in 2009 where he owned and operated Seldon Plumbing in Idaho Falls.

Phil is remembered as someone with a curious mind, who loved to see how things worked. He was an intensely private individual, with a dry "British" sense of humor who devoted his life to his son, Jason. Phil considered raising Jason to be his greatest achievement. Jason remembers as a young child how his father arranged his work schedule around Jason's school schedule so that he was always there to pick him up and was never sent to a babysitter.

Phil loved to drive on the open road. He and Jason spent many hours on road trips or just short drives where the two had a chance to talk deeply and where Jason learned many life lessons from his father. Jason recalls that after missing a flight to Arizona, his father drove him there, staying only for dinner before driving the 13 hours back to Idaho Falls.

Phil had a "best friend" in the form of a small stuffed bear named Hobbs. According to Phil, Hobbs quickly developed a personality and grew as an individual. At family camp outs, Hobbs would sit on Phil's shoulder and tell stories that had everyone laughing and enjoying Phil's dry humor. Hobbs has been repaired several times and lived with Phil until his death.

Phil was devoted to his mother. After his move back to Idaho Falls, he went out of his way to stop and have coffee with her on most days. He was an avid photographer, always with a camera in his hands at family gatherings and later happy to share his photos. Phil loved his family and having them around him near the end meant a great deal to him. He was a loving person and a great hugger. His family will miss those wonderful hugs and his unique sense of humor.

Phil is preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Orene Stallings and his biological father, Tony Drips. He is survived by his son Jason, his brother Daniel Drips, sister Donna (Butch) Powers, sister Jennifer (Kerry) Byington, and his father Adrian Stallings.

Phil has donated his body to science and a private memorial service will be held later.
