Peggy Joan Carlson

Our loving mother passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Peggy J. Carlson was born into a loving family as an only child to Clarence Alva Cutler and Jessie G. Robinson Cutler. Jobs were scarce during the Depression Years and in 1935 at the age of 6, Peggy and her family moved to Pocatello to seek employment with the Union Pacific Railroad. Peggys love of music began as a young girl taking piano lessons. She loved to attend all the dance recitals in town. Mom attended Whittier grade school, Franklin Junior High and graduated in 1947 from Pocatello High School. During her senior year she was voted "peppiest". She worked at the Chief Theatre while in high school and later at Fargos Department Store and Mountain States Telephone. Peggy found happiness with Wesley E. Carlson and they were married September 18, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Peggy became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1954. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple on July 17, 1965. She served in many callings: pianist in primary and relief society, teacher in primary, Sunday school and relief society and relief society president. She enjoyed drama and acting and performed in church and community plays. Peggy served the community for many years at the election polls as chief judge. She will be remembered for her unselfish time she provided teaching her grandchildren to play the piano. Mom had a wonderful zest for life and a positive outlook on the future. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Peggy has 24 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother; father; husband, Wesley of 47 years; two children, David Jonathan and Alan Blaine; and a grandson, Brian Gary Carlson. She is survived by her children (all of Pocatello), Douglas C. Carlson (Deanna), Gary R. Carlson (Kathy), Suzanne Cuoio (John), Scott C. Carlson, Bonnie Price and Brent J. Carlson (Pam). Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Lewis and Clark LDS Chapel, 550 W. Cedar St. on the corner of Cedar and Poole. Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID, on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm and again at the church on Saturday from 9 to 9:45 am. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
