POCATELLO- Peggie B. Black, 76, passed away peacefully Monday, March 19, 2012, at a hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Peggie was born on September 5, 1935, in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho to Myron and
Daphne Watts Boyce. Peggie spent her childhood in the Marsh Valley area.
On October 17, 1950, she married Ronald L. Southworth. They moved to San Diego, California where Ron was stationed in the US Navy. Their two oldest children, George and Paul, were born there. After Ron's service was over, they moved back to the Marsh Valley area, living in Inkom, McCammon (where their next two children were born, Craig and Rhonda), and Arimo.
After having her four children, she received a Bachelor in Liberal Arts and her teaching certificate from Idaho State University. She worked as a Media Specialist at Wilcox Elementary and Green Acres Elementary Schools and retired in May of 1995 after twenty years of teaching. She was one of the very first media specialists to be employed by School District #25.
Peggie's husband Ronald passed away in 1981. She later married James M. Black, on July 8, 1983.
Peggie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Throughout her life she enjoyed boating, trips to Island Park, and sewing quilt tops. Peggie also loved to machine embroider, work on puzzles, and read books of all kinds. She also enjoyed playing board games with her family.
Peggie is survived by her husband James Black of Chubbuck, Idaho, sons; George (Kamila) Southworth of Nampa, Idaho, Paul (Linda) Southworth of Pocatello, Idaho, Craig (Jeanette) Southworth of Mona, Utah, daughter, Rhonda ( Jon) Wilker of Eureka, Nevada, step-daughters; Michelle Campbell of Pocatello, Idaho, Pam (Chris) Lindemann of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Cindy Morrison of Virginia Beach, Virgina, mother-in-law, Viola Black of Pocatello, Idaho, sisters; Mae Reimers of Tacoma, Washington, Rhea Hickman, of Chubbuck, Idaho, 22 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her first husband Ronald Southworth, step-son; Doug Black, granddaughter; Jessie Frasure, parents; Daphne Watts and Myron Boyce, sister; Ann Jordan and brother; Mike Boyce.
Funeral services for Peggie will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road. A viewing will be held from 12:30 p.m. until service time prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the services at the Norton Cemetery in McCammon, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Education Foundation for the Wilcox Library. Donations can be made in her name and mailed to the District Offices, 3115 Poleline Road, Pocatello, Idaho 83201. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, 238-8000.
