Paul was born in Eldorado Illinois, second child of 7, to Margie and John Naas. He grew up in Murphysboro Illinois and graduated high school in 1961. Childhood activities included high school and American legion baseball (state champs 1958 – yeah); piano, church organist; soda jerk; and general fun lover.
After a semester at Southern Illinois University, majoring in pool and poker, Paul joined the army in 1962. He spent 21 years in the military with a year in Vietnam. Traveling and meeting people throughout the world was an adventure that he always cherished.
Paul finished his education at various schools around the world, majoring in math, accounting and computer science. After retiring from the army, he worked as a scientific programmer at West Point and network programmer for NBC and Western Union.
In 1988 he married Tracey King, the love of his life, in Highland Falls New York and they moved to Pocatello where he began teaching at ISU. They spent many happy years adventuring and exploring around the West, birding and golfing with friends.
Paul retired from ISU after 27 years. He spent his retirement years playing golf, playing the piano, reading, volunteering and generally goofing off. Paul loved reading about European history and how events there shaped the western world.
Humor was always a large part of Paul's life. His personal philosophy was that if one could not see the fun side of everything then life would simply be too serious and not worth living.
Paul is survived by his wife, Tracey King; 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 6 siblings.
