Paul Joseph Butler passed away in Pocatello, ID on November 25, 2015. He was cared for in his home until his death by his wife and daughters. He was born on April 24, 1957 in East Ely, Nevada to Betty Lorene Bushnell Butler and James Joseph Butler.
He grew up in Mt. Home, ID, Ogden UT, and Price, UT. He graduated from high school in 1975. He graduated from Utah State University in 1979 from the college of Natural Resources with a degree in Range Science.
He began his career that following summer in Lusk, WY. He soon joined the Forest Service permanently, working first from ID and then moving to Kemmerer, WY. His next move to St. Isabella, MN found him trading his horse for a canoe. After several years his long for the West took him to Pocatello, where he completed his successful career and he retired after 27 years.
On August 27, 2005 he married the love of his life, Colleen Frandsen Campbell. Paul was inspired to design and produce fabulous horseshoe art which they sold at craft shows and gifted to family and friends. He was so very talented, welding metal and doing his magic with a piece of wood.
Paul was well known for his Blue Ribbon Horsemanship Schools. He instructed many clinics in Idaho with his daughter Samantha including the Lava Hot Springs and Magic Valley areas. Paul very much appreciated the support and friendship of his students.
Hunting trips, 4th of July's spent at McTucker Pond, Christmas horseback rides to FS Guard Stations and yearly wine tasting in Idaho Falls, kept Paul busy.
If Colleen was the love of his life, Samantha was the light – always her Father's girl; both Samantha and his step-daughters were there for him until the end. He will be missed, as he was loved by so many.
Paul is survived by his wife Colleen; daughters Samantha and her partner Kim Pickett, and Elizabeth; step-daughters, Brook (Ryan) Dean; Pearl (Zack) Bay; and Kira Campbell and their children who he thought of as his own grandchildren; Sisters Ann Butler and Susan (LD Frome) niece Caroline and Nephew Christopher; one Aunt, Bebe Robertson; and cousin Hallie Torres
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his very special Uncle "Doug" Bushnell.
There will be no funeral services held at this time. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.wilksfuneralhome.com
