Patrick John Mcknight

June 2, 1994 — April 19, 2010

Patrick John McKnight (15) died Monday, April 19, 2010, from a sudden brain hemorrhage at a local hospital. Though competent medical staff fought to save him, his time had come; much too early for the loving family and many friends he leaves behind. Part of him will hopefully live on through the organs he so generously donated to save others.

Patrick was born on June 2, 1994 in Pocatello, Idaho to Kim John and Laura (Grant) McKnight. He was their only child together and the center of their lives. Patrick was a spirited child with much imagination and creativity. He was very outgoing and loved to talk - a lot! Nicknamed “Louie the Lip,” Patrick had many stories and family secrets to share. Patrick attended Holy Spirit Catholic School through the 6th grade where he was taught so much more than academics. Patrick (now shortened to Pat) went on to Franklin Middle School and currently Pocatello High School where he was finishing his freshman year. Throughout his years of school, he was loved by his many teachers, staff, friends and their parents.

Early on, Pat discovered music which became his passion. Though he sang, played some piano and drums, and had recently taken up the bassoon, his favorite instrument was the guitar. He played all genres of music on his many guitars: classical, jazz, rock, country and folk. His dream was to go on to renowned music college to study guitar, music compostion and film scoring.

Pat had many other interests. He loved the outdoors and nature, especially hiking and skiing. He enjoyed reading and learning about history, geography and other cultures. Social justice was very important to Pat. He believed everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. He was drawn to those most in need of a friend. Though music was his passion, family was the possession that he loved and cherished the most.

Pat was the first to leave his immediate family; maybe to prepare a place and welcome them to Heaven when their times have come. He is survived by his parents, Kim and Laura McKnight (Pocatello); grandparents Philip and Marguerite Grant (Pocatello) and John and Delone McKnight (Mackay); one half sister Candee (Brady) Carter with one niece and three nephews (Inkom); three aunts: Karla (Brent) Mulkey of Salmon, Darylann Barker (Georgia), Jackie Malone (South Carolina) and three uncles: Kelvin (Mary) McKnight of Pocatello, Philip Grant Jr. (Nancy) and Duane (Ellie) Grant both from North Carolina. Pat also had many cousins, both local and across the country who meant the world to him.

Donations can be made in his honor to either the “Patrick John McKnight Memorial Music Scholarship Fund” (deposited at any ISU Federal Credit Union Branch) or Holy Spirit Catholic School (540 N 7th Ave (208) 232-5763).
