Patricia Maughan

November 21, 1931 — December 22, 2018

Patricia Knudsen Maughan, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Brookdale Chubbuck Senior Living Center. Pat was born on November 21, 1931 in Fairview, Idaho in her Grandmother's bedroom. She was the oldest child of Delbert Christian and Verna Hall Knudsen. She was raised on the family farm in Fairview, Idaho. During her junior high years her family moved to Logan, Utah then they returned to Fairview where she graduated from Preston High School.

Pat met Edward Wilson Maughan during her junior year at Preston High School. They were engaged in September of her senior year and on June 26, 1950 they were married in the Logan LDS Temple. Ed and Pat's early married life was spent moving around to various states while Ed served in the Air Force. They were stationed at Lackland Air Force Base (known now as Kelly Air Force Base) in San Antonio, Texas when their first child, Kathleen (Kathy) was born. They lived in Georgia for a short time, then lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base when their son, Jerry Dean, was born.. After Ed was discharged from the military, the telephone company located him in Pocatello. Their son, Lyle Gene, was born in Pocatello.

Pat had many hobbies and was good at all of them. She enjoyed playing the piano, doing counted cross stitch, making things with plastic canvas, and other needlework crafts, doing puzzles, taking care of her flowers and garden, canning the produce she grew, decorating the house and yard for the holidays, indexing, doing genealogy and collecting pictures of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pat was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions in her ward and stake including, pianist, secretary, counselor, quilt chairman and teacher. She loved the people she served with and made many life-long friends through these associations.

Pat is survived by her children, Kathy (Roger) Sowell of Chubbuck, Idaho; Lyle (Paula) Maughan of Rigby, Idaho; Jill Hammond (Jerry Maughan) of Chandler, Arizona. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Siblings surviving Pat are Tony (Lucynthia) Knudsen, Albuquerque, NM; Neil (Linda) Knudsen, Milo, ID; Kate (Max) Palmer, Sugar City, ID; Suzanne (Paul) Carver, Soda Springs, ID; and Peggy (Glade) Moser, Preston, ID. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Pat Knudsen, Malta, ID.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Wilson Maughan, her son, Jerry Dean Maughan, her parents Delbert Christian and Verna Hall Knudsen, and brothers, Delbert Hall Knudsen and Scott Edwin Knudsen.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Chubbuck and Encompass Hospice for their kind and loving care in Pat's behalf.

Funeral services for Pat will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 at the Cedar LDS First Ward located at 550 W. Cedar Street, Pocatello, Idaho. A viewing will be held Friday, January 4, 2019 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Wilks Funeral Home located at 211 W. Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, Idaho and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Pocatello following the services.
