Patricia Helen Collette Powell, 82, passed away Thursday evening, August 3, 2017, at home surrounded by family and friends, from congestive heart failure. She was born on July 23, 1935 in Harlem, Montana to David E. (Ted) Collette and Izetta Owen Collette. Her early years were spent on a farm on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation near the Milk River. At the outbreak of World War II, the family returned to the St. Anthony, ID area; where her fathers family was from originally. She attended elementary school in St. Anthony until her father returned from the Navy. About that time the family moved to West Yellowstone, MT, where they remained and she finished elementary school. She attended South Fremont High School in St. Anthony living with her grandparents. Back home in the summer of 1953, she began dating Jay Powell of St. Anthony, who was just home from BYU and working in West Yellowstone for the summer. By the end of the summer, Jay didnt want Pat to get away, so he proposed. They were married at her parents home in West Yellowstone on October 24, 1953. A year later, Jay was drafted into the U.S. Army. Pat and their infant son, David, stayed home with her parents until Jays return in 1956. After a brief time in St. Anthony, they moved to Pocatello in January 1957, so Jay could finish school at Idaho State College. They remained in Pocatello the rest of their life. They had 6 children, Dave 1954, Tami 1957, Floyd 1959, Jayne and Jerry (Twins) 1965, and Jill 1971. She worked for the School District Food Service for 5-6 years in the Irving Jr. High kitchen in the late 1970s. She retired as head cook so she could follow her son, Jerrys, athletic career at HHS more closely. She and Jay followed the Highland Cross Country and track teams for 12 years; hardly missing a meet, until Coach Bob Conley retired. Pat was an excellent homemaker and a wonderful mother and companion. She is very dearly missed. Pat is survived by her loving husband, Jay; her children, Dave (Debbie), St. George, UT, Tami (John) Henson, Chubbuck, Floyd, Pocatello, Jayne (Art) Ingram, Boise, Jerry, Pocatello, Jill Hansen, Pocatello; sisters, Barbara Powell, TX, Judy Hinds, CA, Toni Davis, WI; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
