Orlin C. Moon, 80, passed away at his home of natural causes on Friday, January 9, 2015. He was born November 10, 1934 in Holbrook, Idaho to Archie Cleve and Ireta Tubbs Moon. He was raised and attended schools in Oneida, Bingham and Bannock counties. He grew up farming with his family until his father moved to Pocatello to work for the railroad in the 1950s. Orlin was later drafted into the Army and he served as a tank driver with the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment. While in the Army he met and married the love of his life, Betty Matthew, and they were married for 49 years until her passing in 2009. He worked for over thirty years as a Carman with the Union Pacific Fruit Express. He enjoyed raising and training both cutter and flat racing quarter horses. He won the Intermountain Championship Cutter Races in 1964 and again a year later after it had been renamed the World Championship Cutter and Chariot Race. He was a phenomenal horseman. He continued to cutter race throughout the 1970s and he raced horses on the flat track into the 1990s. He also liked to play bingo at Fort Hall and he bowled on a number of leagues over the years. He especially enjoyed bowling with the seniors. Orlin is survived by his sons, Orlin Kent and Monty Cleve; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his daughter, Sue Ann; his parents; his brothers, Donald and Gary; and his sisters, Linda Wickhorst and Margaret Thompson.
