Norman LaVell Smith died peacefully at home on June 21, 2018, with his beloved wife Carol at his side.
Norman was born April 8, 1938, to Sylva Banner and Lawrence Randolph "Pat" Smith. Educated in Boise, Idaho, he completed a degree in Auto Mechanics at Boise Junior College. He began his career at Service Parts Company, working at several locations including Boise, Idaho, and Ontario and Burns, Oregon. A few years later he purchased the facility in Pocatello, Idaho, and renamed it Norm's Service Parts. His talent as a machinist was unparalleled and his loyal customers depended on his expertise throughout his career.
On August 8, 1957, he married Carol Louise Smith in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards, old cars, traveling and camping; he was especially fond of Yellowstone National Park and Redfish Lake. He also devoted his time, unselfishly, to his sacred duties in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol; children, Karri Jackson, Kim and Bard Lewis, Kent and Jennifer Smith, Kyle and Christine Smith and Kevin Smith; siblings, Robert and Joyce Smith and Connie and Ralph Groover, as well as 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Norman is preceded in death by his sister Irene Fredrickson.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff of Quinn Meadows, Healing Hands Home Health, Healing Center and Access Hospice. We would like to express a sincere thanks to Dr. Jordan Bailey and Dr. Chris Shields as well as caregivers Katie, Andrea and Dave.
