Norman Hronek

d. August 4, 2013

Norman E. Hronek passed away peacefully of causes natural to age on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at the Idaho State Veteran's Home in Pocatello. Norm was born in Pocatello, Idaho on January 17, 1927 to Edward and Veldron Hronek. He spent the majority of his life in Pocatello, raising his family, working and enjoying life. He married Phyllis Jean Brower on June 24, 1949, after returning from his service in the 11 th Airbourne Division in Sendai, Japan. He and Phyllis lived in Denver for a short time, but returned to Pocatello to raise their two sons on their property on Buckskin Road. Norm enjoyed a 37 year career working for Garrett Freightlines, where he made many lifelong friends. Norm loved spending time with his sons. When he wasn't coaching their little league baseball teams, he devoted his time teaching them to hunt, fish, and enjoy the outdoors very early in their youth. Norm retired from Garrett's in 1987 and spent the remainder of his life enjoying his family (particularly his grandchildren), golf, and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, two sons; Douglas (Ann) of Heber City, Utah, and Robert (Molly) of Kent, Washington, a sister Arlene Foley, 7 grandchildren; Megan, Ashley, Eric, Christopher, Sean, Kati and Whitney and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the excellent nursing staff at the Idaho State Veteran's Home who patiently and compassionately cared for Norm over the last two years. As per Norm's wishes, his body will be cremated. A celebration of Norm's life will be held at a future date to be announced in the Idaho State Journal.
