Norman Bailey Myers

March 24, 1942 — August 18, 2017

Norman Bailey Myers, 75, passed away on August 18, 2017 in Pocatello, Idaho from an extended illness. He was born on March 24, 1942 being welcomed by three older sisters, Melba, Loa and Rosemary who loved and adored him. His parents were Norman Arvil and Hazel Lucille Bailey Myers.

He loved all types of sports especially baseball and fishing. He grew up playing city ball for Pocatello. He was on the team that won Pony League All-stars that was coached by Ben Torres which took them to Provo, Utah. His coach always called him Mickey Mantle.

His brother-in-laws took him up to fish for steelhead on the Salmon River and it was heaven for him from then on. He loved especially fishing Long Hole which some people ended up calling "Norm's Hole" as he could catch fish out of there when no one else could. He went for many years alone with his dog Carmy by his side until his wife retired. To him, being there on the Salmon River was like heaven on earth as it had a spiritual feeling to it.

He especially loved spending time with his family whether it was camping, fishing, floating down Warm River, Barbeques in the backyard or getting together for the holidays.

As a diehard ISU fan, he would go and watch the "Boys" practices and seldom missed a game. A highlight for him was getting to attend the ISU vs UCLA game in Provo, Utah with ISU being the victors.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he held many callings from Ward Clerk to being in an Edlers Quorum Presidency. His greatest calling, however, was the many years he served in the scouting program.

Norman began working for the Union Pacific Railroad, as a clerk in the Administrative Office when he was a junior at Pocatello High School until he retired 32 years later.

He met and married the love of his life, Loa Warner on a blind date. Though they were only married for 47 years, his desire was to celebrate their golden anniversary with his sweetheart.
He is survived by: his wife, Loa Warner Myers; son Norman (Sheryl); daughters, Lisa (Brian) Harmon, Michelle Fisher; Susan (Gary) Robinson; sisters, Melba (Joe) Carlson, Loa (Glenn) Tyler; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rosemary Rust and her husband Floyd Rust.
