Norma Whiting

Norma Whiting returned home to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on October 5, 2021, with her family by her side.

Norma was born in Pocatello, ID, September 16, 1935, the 3rd child of Herman and Nola Larsen. She attended school in McCammon and completed all twelve grades in the same schoolhouse.

At the age of 18, she married the love of her life, Leon Whiting, on March 14, 1953, in Elko, NV. They had known each other since the third grade. Leon always claimed it was love at first sight.

Norma was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. When she wasn’t taking care of the kids or house, she enjoyed sewing, singing, playing crossword puzzles, reading, and doing yard work. She especially loved getting together with her family.

In 1963 Norma and Leon took up square dancing and calling as a form of recreation and socializing. The two of them were wonderful square and round dance callers and called for various clubs in the community: Valley Stompers, Caribou Gems, and Choo-Choo Squares.

Norma is survived by two sons, Miles (Karma) Whiting of Lava Hot Springs, ID, Kelly (Jan) Whiting of Boise, ID; four daughters, Melanie (Tracy) Luras of Pocatello, ID, Susan (Jeremy) Hedges of Helena, MT, Cherrie (Steve) Warwick of Spokane, WA, and Alane Whiting of Pocatello, ID; sister, Merle Henderson of Arimo, ID; and sister-in-law, Tyra Larsen of McCammon, ID.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; twin baby boys, Terry and Berry; her parents; and sisters, Doris and Belva; and brother, Gene.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful care Heritage Home Health gave our mother in her last days.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021, at 11 am at Colonial Chapel, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID, with a viewing for one hour prior.
Burial will follow in the Norton Cemetery, McCammon, ID.
