Nancy Ann Thurm

November 19, 1943 — January 11, 2025

Pocatello

Nancy Ann Thurm, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and nana, passed away on January 11, 2025 in Pocatello, Idaho surrounded by her family at age 81. She was born on November 19, 1943 to George Oscar Baugh and Ethel Grace Pinney, the oldest daughter of ten children. During her childhood she moved from state to state, eventually settling in California where she met the love of her life Kenneth R. Thurm. Ken and Nancy met in April of 1963 in Hayward, California while Ken was home on leave from the U.S. Navy. They dated for two weeks; then on his last day before shipping out, he proposed to her, she said yes. Ken mailed her the engagement ring from Hawaii, Nancy started to plan the wedding. In October, Ken came home and they were married on Oct. 12, 1963. They were blessed with three daughters, their first daughter Annette was born in January of 1965, Mary was born in November of 1968, with Susan was born in March of 1971.

In the winter of 1972, Ken was offered a promotion with KFC as a store manager, which came with a relocation to Pocatello. Ken came to Pocatello to find them a house while Nancy stayed back in California to pack and put that house up for sale. Then in October of 1972, Nancy and the girls arrived in Pocatello. Pocatello has been an amazing place to raise their family and has been their home ever since.

Nancy’s greatest enjoyment was any time with her family which was both blood and friends that became family over the years. Anytime they could have a family meal she loved it. Nancy was an avid crafter liking to paint ceramics, crocheting, and diamond paintings. No project was too small or too big with many of her ideas coming on the internet. She loved having craft night with her daughters, grandchildren, best friend Diane, and anyone else that would like to come.

Nancy worked at various jobs in Pocatello, including a pet store, owning/operating a daycare, Firefox Enterprises, and finally retiring from Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 at Central Kitchen.

Nancy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years Kenneth R. Thurm, and her three daughters Annette (Bryan) Linford, Mary Hasibar, and Susan Thurm. The three girls have blessed Ken and Nancy with six grandchildren Jennifer (Abraham) Warner, Justin (Ellen) Jackson, Erik Ekstrom, Samantha (Zachary) Reames, Michele (Forest) Deason and Ryan Simpson. Ken and Nancy (aka Papa and Nana) have also been blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Jazzie, Sunnie, Audrie, Greysen, Shane, Ava, Trinity, AnnaBeth, and Adley.

She is proceeded in death by her parents George and Ethel, her brothers George Jr., Carl, and Bill, her son-in-law Bryan, and her best friend/sister Diane.

Nancy’s family would like to thank Cassie from Heritage Home Health along with the staff at Quinn Meadows for the amazing care they gave Nancy and the family during this difficult time. They showed true compassion. A special thank you to Kevin at Quinn Meadows he provided laughter when it is was needed the most along with great care.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
