Nancy Bridges

September 5, 1933 — November 22, 2024

Nancy Joyce Bridges, 91, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on November 22, 2024, in Pocatello, ID. Born on September 5, 1933, in Lancaster, PA, she cherished the Pennsylvania Dutch culture. During WWII her father, John Lawrence, who joined the Navy, and mother, Mildred, moved to Miami, FL, where Nancy met her future husband, Hugh, who was in the Navy just prior to the Korean War. After her graduation from high school and a stint with the FBI in D.C., she married Hugh on February 3, 1952, in Alhambra, CA, and they soon welcomed two children, Tim and Holly.

They lived in Southern California for over 35 years, where Hugh worked as an engineer for Hughes Aircraft Company, and Nancy was a school secretary and later an administrative assistant at Cal State University Fullerton. A fond memory was their family's appearance on the game show "Family Feud" in 1978, winning with Richard Dawson.

After Hugh's retirement, they moved to Vancouver, WA, and lived three houses down from Tim and Lorrie. They enjoyed creating stained glass art and spent a memorable summer in Siena, Italy, working in a studio on a cathedral window. In 2002, they transitioned to a continuing care community in Portland, OR. Hugh passed away in 2008, and Nancy moved to Pocatello in 2018 where she lived the rest of her life at Quail Ridge Assisted Living.

Nancy was a devoted student and teacher of the Bible, with a cherished relationship with Jesus. As her body declined she often said, "I’m blessed but my body doesn’t know it." She is survived by her children, Tim Bridges (wife Lorrie) and Holly Bridges, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her ashes will be placed next to Hugh’s in the columbarium at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR. The family expresses sincere gratitude to the wonderful Quail Ridge staff and the caring hospice team from Heritage Home Health and Hospice.
