Myron William "Mac" McCormick, 91, of Pocatello, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2009, at the Idaho State Veterans Home. He was born on August 16, 1918, in Detroit, Michigan, to Myron and Margaret McCormick. He was from a family of eight children and had 3 brothers and 4 sisters. He attended school at Longfellow in Royal Oak, Michigan, and then joined the Navy in 1939. He was called in 1940 to the Great Lake, Illinois, training center. He was assigned to the USS Pennsylvania in Bremerton, Washington, then to Pearl Harbor. Myron was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and was sitting on the bridge of the USS Pennsylvania when Pearl Harbor was bombed. He later retired from the Navy in 1960. He married Catherine Rubbus in 1946, and they later divorced. Together they had two children: Catherine Lee in 1947, and Clarence Myron in 1949. From this marriage also came 6 grandchildren. In 1958 he met Elva Stapleton Davis and they were married in Las Vegas in 1961. From this marriage he gained a daughter, Jodi, and later two grandchildren: Rod Bateman and Robin (Eric) Warth, as well as his beloved great-grandson Aiden and Hunter. They lived in Las Vegas for five years while he worked for the Tropicana Casino and the Tropicana Golf Course. Mac and Elva moved to Pocatello in 1967 and he went to work for the City of Pocatello. He also owned the Union 76 Service Station on the corner of 5th and Benton. When that closed he became a security guard for B.E. until he retired permanently in 1980. He liked to go camping, fishing, and hunting. He also liked to garden and he loved to go to Jackpot and Fort Hall. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Elva. He is survived by his daughter Jodi (George) Bateman of Pocatello, grandson Rod Bateman of Boise, granddaughter Robin (Eric) Warth of Pocatello; and great-grandsons Aiden and Hunter Warth. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2009, at the funeral home and also one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors performed by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
