POCATELLO - Muriel Amelia "Ma" Bell, 87, of Pocatello, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at a local care center. She was born on February 3, 1924, to George and Elma (Godfrey) Gallagher in the Riverside Hotel in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. Her family moved to Downey for a while, but moved back to Lava Hot Springs and there she went to school. She married Conrad Carter in 1942 and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. He died in1961. She later married Leonard Bell in 1968. He died in 2005. Muriel worked as a waitress in every state she lived in. Later she managed apartments in San Jose and Pocatello. She was a member of Ivy Rebekah Lodge #23, Alanon, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Muriel enjoyed reading, search work puzzles, watching Rockies baseball, cooking, and collecting cookbooks. She is survived by her daughter Shannon (James) Vieth of Pocatello, son Geoffrey (Geraldine) Carter of Woods Cross, Ut, daughter Michelle (Mike) Sumpter of Idaho Falls, Idaho, son Tracy (Shirley) Carter of Pocatello, brother Karl (Dorothy) Schultz of Boise, Idaho, sister Zandra (Ed) Johnson of Midvale, Utah, sister Florence Harrison of Santa Rosa, California, stepson Brad (Barbara) Bell of LaVergne, TN, stepson Ken Nesser of San Jose, Ca, stepson Bruce (Jan) Bell of Wolf Creek, OR, 24 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, George Gallagher and Elma Godfrey Schultz; husband, Conrad Carter; husband, Leonard Bell; step-father, Harry Shultz; granddaughter, Danielle Sumpter; grandson, Gregory Bell, and sister, Phyllis Donahue. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, also at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery.
