Mildred Van Sickle

October 4, 1926 — December 23, 2014

Mildred "Mickey" Huckabay Van Sickle

Surrounded by the love of her family, Mildred "Mickey" Louise Huckabay Van Sickle, 88, went home to join her husband and Jesus on December 23, 2014.

Mickey was born October 4, 1926 in Alamogordo, New Mexico to James Robert and Florence Marion Huckabay. As a young child, her family moved to Sedona, Arizona. She attended a small school from first to eighth grade and because she was best in academics and athletics she was valedictorian for her 8th grade graduating class. In 1943 they moved to San Jose, CA where she graduated from San Jose High School in 1944

At the age of nineteen Mickey (in her words) met a "good-looking sailor" that became the love of her life and soul mate, Glenn James Van Sickle. Three months later, on August 11, 1945, they were married in Eureka, California.

After Glenn's discharge from the service, they moved to Idaho, where they raised five children and two of their grandchildren, Connie and Kenneth.

Mickey's career consisted of raising her children and grandchildren. In her younger years she drove beet trucks during harvest and later in life went to work at the Idaho Department Store. She spent many years teaching and participating with her daughters and neighborhood children in 4-H. Mickey was an amazing seamstress making her children's clothing, daughter's wedding gowns, and grandchildren's costumes.

Mickey loved watching her children and grandchildren playing sports and participating in other activities. She loved her family, bowling, sewing, crocheting, knitting, the old time fiddlers, and spending time in the outdoors with her family.

Mickey attended Cornerstone Chapel and was baptized July 1, 1994. Mickey loved her church family and spent many Sundays preparing coffee and doughnuts for after the church services.

Mickey is survived by her sons, Leo (Mary) of American Falls and Glenn Jr. (Ruby) of Pocatello; daughters, Glenda (Garth) Herbst of Blackfoot, Florence (Tim) Burwell of Pocatello, Betty (Mike) Beck of Chubbuck; and sister, Betty Kotzian. In all, she had 17 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Mickey was preceded in death by her husband Glenn James Van Sickle, Sr.; her parents, James and Florence Huckabay; step-father Ben Snyder; sisters, Mary Ellen Johnson, Kathy Calio; brothers, James Huckabay, Robert Huckabay; grandson, Daniel Beck; and two great-grandsons, Jessie Red Elk and Trey Van Sickle.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wilks Funeral home at 211 West Chubbuck Road. A gathering of friendship will be held on Sunday Dec. 28 from 4-6pm. The funeral service will be held Monday Dec. 29 at 11am with a gathering 1 hour prior with an internment to follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.wilksfuneralhome.com
