POCATELLO - Michael Smith, loving father, son, brother, and friend passed away, at the age of 55, on September 1, 2011. His quick wit and wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho on March 8, 1956. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1974. Later on, he received a business degree from Idaho State University. He married Felicia Bieker in May 1985. Together, they had a son, Garrett. They were later divorced. Mike worked in the insurance business for many years. Recently, he worked for Harper's Bread Company. He was a member of the LDS church. He served a French-speaking mission in Quebec, Canada. He also served in various church callings, including ward clerk, Boy Scout leader, and Primary teacher. Mike always loved sports, both as a participant and fan. He played Little League Baseball. As a young adult, basketball was an important part of his life; he spent numerous hours playing with friends. He was an outdoorsman. He was an avid fly fisherman and also liked to fish in reservoirs from his float tube. Hiking, backpacking, and hunting were among his favorite ways to occupy his time. Mike had a chocolate Labrador retriever, Penny, whom he took hunting and on walks up City Creek on an almost daily basis. In his later years, his favorite hobby was taking photographs of mountain scenery and various plant and wildlife. He is survived by his son, Garrett Michael Smith; mother, Dixie Lee Smith; sister, Kleas Wray (Stuart); brother, Kenton Smith; nieces Michelle Wray, Danielle Wray, and Kendi Smith; nephews, Jared Wray, Jeremy Smith, Travis Smith (Sheena) and Trevor Smith (Heidi). He was preceded in death by his father, Keith Perry Smith. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at the Johnny Creek Ward Building, 5425 Bannock Highway, in Pocatello, Idaho, with Bishop Rick Parker presiding. Family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 South 4 th Avenue in Pocatello. A viewing will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on .Wednesday. Interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery.
